I. GRAMMAR: a) revision:

Ex. 1. Choose the correct pronoun.

Ex. 3. Fill in the blanks with indefinite pronouns.

Ex. 4. Translate into English:

Никому из наших студентов этот фильм не понравился.

 

b) new material: Present Perfect Tense.

Употребляется для выражения действия уже свершившегося в предшествующий период до момента речи, но имеющего непосредственную связь с настоящим моментом. Образуется с помощью глагола to have и причастия II смыслового глагола: I have written to my friend. He has just come from Moscow. Наречия, употребляемые с данным временем: already, yet, just, ever, never, lately, recently, of late, so far и др.

 

Ex. 1. Translate into Russian:

1. What’s the time? – Sorry, I have left my watch at home. 2. I can’t get into the room. I have lost the key. 3. It is absolutely dark in the room. Who has turned off the light? 4. I don’t see my dictionary on the table. Who has taken it? – It’s me. I have put it on the shelf. 5. Where are the students? – They have just left for the library. 6. My sister has always helped me with my English. 7. You have never heard about it, have you? 8. We haven’t yet read about it in the newspaper. 9. He hasn’t written to her yet. 10. I haven’t spoken to him yet. 11. Has everybody come? – Yes, all are present. We can begin this meeting. 12. Have you ever seen this film? 13. We have not seen him since we finished school. 14. They have had no lectures this week. Their lecturer has been ill since last Monday. 15. I haven’t seen you for a long time. Where have you been all this time? – I‘ve been away from Moscow. 16. Mary’s just made coffee. 17. He’s gone to bed. 18. They’ve closed the shop. 19. John’s just brought the mail. 20. I have often been to the Museum of Art. Have you?

Ex. 2. Make the following sentences: a) interrogative, b) negative.

a) 1. You have taken my note-book. 2. His sister has passed her examinations. 3. Her brother has entered Moscow University. 4. The children have already had breakfast. 5. The teacher has just come. 6. The students have been busy the whole day. 7. She has translated this article. 8. The delegation has returned home. 9. You have often visited this theatre. 10. They have heard much about it. 11. You have been to Moscow (ever).

b) 1. Our professor has come from London (yet). 2. I have written a letter to Ann. 3. They have opened the shop. 4. My friend has changed since I saw him last. 5. He has told the manager about it. 6. She has spoken at the meeting today. 7. I have done my homework. 8. We have met them (since 1990). 9. I have studied this subject (never).

 

Ex. 3. Answer these questions:

1. Have you seen the film ‘Titanic’? When did you see it? 2. Have you read ‘War and Peace’ by Tolstoy? When did you read it? 3. Have you heard the opera ‘Sadko’? 4. Has your friend helped you with your English? 5. Have you come to the English class? 6. Have brought all the necessary books and note-books? 7. Have you done your homework for today? 8. Has the teacher come in? 9. Has the class started? 10. The teacher has asked you a few questions, hasn’t she? 11. Have you answered them? 12. Are the students answering the teacher’s questions? 13. By the way, at what time did your English class begin? 14. What have you prepared for today’s class? 15. What have you written? 16. What translation have you done? 17. Which exercises have you done? 18. Who hasn’t done his homework? 19. Who hasn’t brought his textbook?

Ex. 4. You are writing a letter to your friend. In the letter you give some news. Use the words given to make sentences. Use the present perfect.
