Have and have got

Ex. 2. In this exercise you have to write sentences about yourself. Choose 4 of the following things (or you can choose something else):

Have you got these things now? Did you have them 5 or 10 years ago? Write 2 sentences each time using I’ve got / I haven’t got and I had / I didn’t have.

b) new material: Past Continuous.

Данное время употребляется: 1) для выражения действия, происходившего в определенный момент в прошлом. Этот момент может быть ясен из контекста или обозначен точным указанием времени: I was waiting for you at 10 o’clock yesterday или другим действием, выраженным глаголом в прошедшем времени группы Indefinite: What were you doing when I came in? 2) Для описания обстановки в определенный момент в прошлом, с которого начинается повествование. Образуется при помощи глагола to be в прошедшем времени и причастия I смыслового глагола.

b) new material: Passive Voice (Страдательный залог)

Образуется с помощью вспомогательного глагола to be и причастия II смыслового глагола. Глагол в страдательном залоге показывает, что лицо или предмет, обозначенный подлежащим, испытывает воздействие или находится в определенном состоянии в результате какого-то воздействия.

Ex. 1. Translate into Russian:

1. Our plant is often visited by foreign [′forin] guests [gests] (гости). 2. These houses were built last year. 3. In recent years this new African state was recognized by many countries. 4. At the end of the lecture the speaker was not asked any questions. 5. Sometimes he is sent to Moscow on business. 6. We are seldom given much English homework. 7. I am often asked to speak at the meetings. 8. The letter will be posted tomorrow. 9. I was shown the way to the stadium. 10. Will this book be translated into Russian? 11. Ex. 2. Make questions and negatives.

1. Houses are built very quickly now. 2. This work will be finished tomorrow. 3. The delegation was met at the station. 4. The article has been translated into Russian. 5. The work can be done tomorrow morning. 6. The doctor has been sent for. 7. The question has been discussed. 8. Petrov is wanted on the phone. 9. The rules will be revised at the next lesson. 10. The book was written in 1966.

Ex. 3. Put the sentences into the Passive Voice:

a) 1. They often invite me to their parties. 2. People speak English in different parts of the world. 3. One uses milk for making butter. 4. We form the Passive Voice with help of the verb “to be”. 5. They build a lot of new houses in this district every year.

b) 1. They built this house in 1980. 2. Somebody locked the front door. 3. Someone broke my pen last night. 4. They punished the boy for that. 5. They finished their work in time.

c) 1. People will forget it very soon. 2. They will tell you when to come. 3. They will translate this book next year. 4. Where will they build a new library? 5. Someone will ask him about it.

Ex. 4. Put the sentences into the Passive Voice making the indirect object the subject of the passive construction.
