Mass media enjoy an enormous popularity and importance in contemporary world for they offer information about recent events. Among various kinds of media a special place belongs to the Internet because an individual can access it at any moment. The most important Internet content is the news about politicians governing countries and influencing the state of society. The analysis of the BBC Internet news reveals that three out of ten items of daily news are about politicians and their activity. Politicians’ images are mainly formed by the choice of nominative units which explains the importance of their study. The manual includes headlines and texts with nominative units representing politicians with different status.

The topicality of the work is defined by the importance of the Internet news and its role in the representation of politicians.

The scientific novelty consists in revealing that in the Internet news headlines the status of politicians is reflected by anthroponyms, common nouns or their combination while the distribution of nominative units in Internet news upholds, lowers or elevates the status of public figures.

The manual is meant to teach senior pupils to understand textual implications and develop abilities to write essays. It may also be used in the work of school language clubs.
