Timothy Harding has worked for this company for ten years. Throughout this time he has shown himself to be hard-working and enthusiastic employee. III. Articles with church, school, university, hospital, court, prison, jail

When a school is being referred top as an institution or the idea of school, you do not need to use the: When do the children finish school? When you are talking of a particular building the or a is used. It’s a new school. I’ll meet you outside the school. Church, prison, jail, court, hospital, work in the same way.

In American English, university and hospital are not used without articles. (He is a patient. He is in a hospital" in AmE and "He is in hospital" in BrE)

3. When … college invited him to speak, he was snubbed by students who felt his policies were unfair to minorities.
