Early morning is usually a very busy time for FMA's downtown branch. Every morning it opens to the public at 9 o'clock. Every morning a duty officer taps out the code and switches off the alarm. Operations officers and staff come at 8.30. A uniformed porter always checks them. A senior operations officer opens the vault's door. A senior vault teller transfers money out of the vault. Delivery guards usually help him. Bank tellers take their seats at the counter. Edwina D'Orsey goes to her desk on the platform. The main front doors open. Early customers stream in. Yes, early morning is usually a very busy time for FMA's main downtown branch.

Today isn't a typical early morning for FMA's main downtown branch. In fact it's a very unusual morning. A large sum of money is missing. The branch is closed.

It's 8.30, but a duty officer, who usually taps out the code and switches off the alarm, is not tapping out the code and switching off the alarm.

Indeed, it's a very unusual morning for FMA's main downtown branch.

■ Ex. 4. Six thousand dollars is missing from FMA. The FBI suspects two people.

They are Juanita Nunez and Miles Eastin. The FBI decides to follow them. Every now and then an FBI agent gets in touch with his chief by walkie-talkie. The chief asks what the suspects are doing at the moment and the agent reports back.

Make use of the following word- combinations:

Juanita Nunez — to leave the bank, to walk to a bus stop across the street, to wait for a bus, to climb aboard, to get off the bus, to walk in the direction of a nursery school, to emerge from the building, to hold one's daughter by the hand, to carry a parcel in one's hand, to make one's way home.

Miles Eastin — to leave one's place at the counter, to direct one's cash truck into the vault, to check one's cash in the vault, to leave the cash vault, to make one's way to the branch canteen, to return from lunch, to go directly into the cash vault, to check out one's cash truck from the vault, to return to work.

How old are they?	The boy's fourteen, the girl's ten.
