Lesson 4

Homework

Ask students to refresh vocabulary from the first two lessons of the section.

Ask students to refresh grammar information about the Future Simple Tense.

Ask students to study this lesson new vocabulary.

Ask students to compose a story about the problems they’ve faced being at an interview. They should use this lesson new vocabulary.

Oral test on the homework

Students’ hometask was to compose a story about the problems they’ve faced being at an interview. Ask some students to tell their stories to the class.

 

LEXICAL EXERCISES

I. Fill in gaps with a suitable word from a-c option:

1. You will be asked questions at an interview.

2. Body language can tell a person how you are feeling without you even having to speak.

3. A person should research a company before going on an interview.

4. A follow-up letter should always be sent after you have gone on an interview.

5. A resume is a paper that tells employers about you.

6. Most jobs require you to have an education and/or experience.

7. A career is a job that you plan to have for a long time.

8. It is important to edit your resume to make necessary changes before you send it to a company.

9. There are templates on your computer that can help you write letters.

10. You will need to contact a company to get an application from them.

 

II. Ask students to match terms written in bold with their correct meaning. Then ask them to read matched pairs aloud and put between the term and its definition the verb “is”.

1. prepare – to get ready for something.

2. resume – a paper that tells employers about you.

3. skills – things a person is good at doing.

4. application – a form that you fill out when trying to get a job.

5. interview – to meet with someone from a company to talk about a job that you are trying to get.

6. body language – the way your body can tell a person how you are feeling without using words.

7. follow-up letter – a letter that is usually sent to someone after an interview.

8. cover letter – a letter that is usually sent with a resume when trying to get a job.

9. career – a job that someone trains for and does for a living.

10. contact – to call or speak with someone.

 

III. Ask students to give definitions to the following words?

edit To look for mistakes and correct them.

education What someone earns by going to school and learning about something.

final draft A copy that is the best you can do.

improve To make better.

research To look into; to get information about something.

rough draft Something that has been written but not yet edited for mistakes.

task Something that needs to be done.

template A guide; something that helps you decide what to do.

 

IV. Ask students to compose 10 sentences using terms from exercises 2 an 3 using as many terms as they can.

 

V. There are different views on how to organise a CV, most prospective employers would expect to see the following headings:
