Countable/ Uncountable nouns.

· Countable nouns are those which we can count. They can be in singular or plural forms. e.g.: an apple, five apples Use a/an with countable nouns in the singular. e.g.: a cap, an orange Use abefore consonant sounds (/d/, /b/, /k/ etc) e.g.: a dog Use anbefore vowel sounds (/a/, /e/, /o/ etc) e.g.: an hour Use theto talk about something that we have mentioned before or which is already known. e.g.: There is a book on the table. The book is thick. · Uncountable nouns are those which we cannot count. They can be only in singular number. e.g.: bread, meat Use some with uncountable nouns. e.g.: some milk, some sugar You can use countable and uncountable nouns in phrases of quantity such as: slice, piece, carton, loaf, kilo, packet, cup, bottle, glass + of e.g.: a bottle of milk, a kilo of apples
