Almaty Technological University (ATU) is known as one of the leading research and education centers in Central Asia, which successfully implements the training of highly qualified specialists and scientific personnel for food and food processing industry, textile and light industry branches, service and hospitality industry, working on a global multi-level model of higher education "Bachelor-Master-Doctor PhD". In the General rating of 60 Kazakhstan’s higher education institutions ATU steadily takes a position in top ten technical higher educational institutions, and all profile specialties of the University take the first positions in educational programs ratings of profiled higher education institutions of Kazakhstan.

ATU is presented on the market of educational services since 1957, and has the following certificates: about quality recognition from the Agency on the International Accreditation ASIIN (Germany) and Independent Kazakhstan Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (IKAQAE).

Quality management system (QMS), that is certified according to the requirements of ISO 9001-2008 international standard, functions in ATU since 2005. The effectiveness of the quality management system of ATU is confirmed by the independent audits conducted by the Certification Association "Russian Register" - a member of the International Certification Network IQNet, making the ATU’s QMS internationally recognized.

The University awarded the international prize in the nomination "EUROPEAN QUALITY", Gold Medals of the International Fund for Excellence in Business Practice (Switzerland) and the Association for the Industry Promotion (France). In 2010 ATU was honored to sign Magna Charta Universitatum – the Great Charter of the Universities. ATU is an Institutional Member of the International Association of the Universities, the International Association for Student Exchanges, the European Universities’ Rectors Club, the International Bibliographic Society, the Union of Eurasian Universities, the EdNet Consortium etc.

The main property of ATU is about 50,000 trained specialists of middle and top links, highly qualified scientific personnel, which is now giving its knowledge and power obtained in the alma mater, to the development of economy, culture, science and education of Kazakhstan and many other countries.

Scientific and academic staff of ATU includes more than 700 scientists and professors, among them there are 19 members of international and national scientific academies, 60 doctors and professors, 175 candidates of sciences and associate professors, 80 PhD and Masters of Science.

ATU has about 60% of Kazakhstan's doctors and 40% of doctor candidates in the field of food and light industry, what proves the powerful potential of the University and its leading position among the 24 institutions of higher education, training staff on the same specialties.

The innovative infrastructure of the University consists of 3 scientific research institutes, working on the basis of several research problematic laboratories and 15 teaching and research departments of the university, as well as: a Center for Research and Innovative Development REDIC on the TEMPUS-1-2008 project, 2 engineering centers on innovative issues and safety of textile and light industry products, a commercialization office of the National Innovation Fund of the Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, a scientific and research bread center; a Kazakh-Korean educational and research center, a special laboratory for Masters and PhD-students’ researches.

The level of the teaching staff of the University allows participating in the implementation of scientific and technical state programs, international projects and grants. Joint scientific and educational projects are carried out within the framework of 73 cooperation agreements with partner universities from the foreign countries. The dual diploma program with the University of Applied Sciences of Wildau, the Academy of Catering and Hospitality of Poznan (Poland), the University of Santiago de Compostela, the Institute of Chemical Technology (Prague), the University of Food Science (Plovdiv) and others is actively implemented.

Academic mobility has become an integral feature of modern education. In order to intensify and support it a Coordinating Council on Foreign Relations and Academic Mobility functions in ATU. In 2011-2012 72 employees and 39 Master and PhD students of ATU participated in joint international academic mobility programs with leading universities of the European Union, USA, UK, Japan, China, Turkey, South Korea and the CIS countries. According to the Inter-Culture-Training program ATU students have a unique opportunity to conduct a professional practice in summer period on a base of partner universities in Spain, Bulgaria, Czech Republic and South Korea.

According to the International Scholarship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Bolashak", 11 students of ATU trained in the leading universities of the world and currently there are 2 students continuing their study.

The University is successfully implementing the budget program of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan "Invitation of foreign scientists to the universities of the Republic" for lectures and scientific tutorial of the students. During the last 2 academic years 54 foreign professors from the UK, Germany, China, Italy, Spain, South Korea, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Slovenia, Russia and other CIS countries visited ATU on this program.
ATU’s activity aims to ensure the continuity of the innovation cycle "education - research - innovation development - practical application" and the strengthening of human resources capable of developing and implementing innovative projects.

The development of novelties is not as important for the modern university as their implementation, transformation to the form of innovation, i.e. completion of innovative and entrepreneurial activity to produce a positive result. ATU supports exactly this strategy in its research and educational activities.
