ADVERBS OF FREQUENCY

These include always, frequently, often, once, twice, sometimes, never, usually, ever, hardly ever, rarely, occasionally, etc.

Adverbs of frequency are normally placed before main verbs.

However, adverbs of frequency are placed after the verb to be and after auxiliary verbs.

Ex. 21. Read the text and suggest the main ideas of it.

Millions of people all over the world spend their holidays travelling. They travel to cities and ruins of ancient (= древний) towns. They travel to enjoy picturesque places or just for a change of scene. It is always interesting to discover new things, different way of life, to meet different people, to try different food, to listen to different musical rhythms.

Those who live in the country like to go to a big city and spend their holidays visiting museums and art galleries, looking at shop windows and dining at exotic restaurants. City-dwellers usually like a quiet holiday by the sea or in the mountains walking, swimming, lazing (= нежась) in the sun.

Most travellers and holiday-makers take a camera with them and take pictures of the sights of a city, old churches and castles, views of mountains, lakes, valleys, waterfalls (= водопады) and forests.

Travelling has its advantages and disadvantages and people choose according to their plans and destinations. If people are fond of travelling, they see or learn a lot of things that they can never see or learn at home, though they may read about them in books and newspapers and see pictures of them on TV. The best way to study geography is to travel and the best way to get to know and understand people is to meet them in their own homes.

Ex. 22. Formulate the main ideas of the text as following.

It is interesting to travel because 1) you see a lot of things: towns, castles; 2) ……………………………... 3) ………………………….......   It is enjoyable to travel because 1) you can swim, sunbathe 2) ……………………………… 3) ……………………………… It is useful to travel because 1) you learn a lot of things about people; 2) ……………………………… 3) ………………………………

Ex. 23. Read the text and study it,

a) underline the verbs "to do", " to be", " to have" and state their functions,

b) mark the sentences with Present Simple and Present Continuous and explain their usage.
