1) I fell ill two months ago. 2) It happened as usual at the time when I least expected it. 3) The epidemic of influenza had already finished and I was sure that this time it had gone past me. 4) We were preparing a school disco party and I was responsible for choosing music. 5) That day I came to school and brought some

music discs to play for my classmates. 6) After the first lesson I felt bad. 7) I had a horrible headache and a sore throat. 8) My teacher noticed that I wasn’t well and sent me home. 9) I came home and took the temperature. 10) It was 38,7. 11) I telephoned my mum and she told me to call the doctor. 12) In half an hour my mother came home. 13) She was upset and frightened, because she had heard a lot of terrible stories about the influenza. 14) She made me go to bed and took the temperature one more time. 15) Soon the doctor came. 16) The doctor was a middle-aged woman, very serious and very quiet. 17) She examined my throat, listened to my heart and lungs and said it was nothing to worry about. 18) It wasn’t influenza, but a bad cold. 19) She wrote a prescription for some medicine and said that I should stay in bed for three or four days. 20) I had to take the pills three times a day, drink warm tea with lemon and take vitamins. 21) She also advised me to gargle my throat with a special medicine as often as I could. 22) I followed all the recommendations because I wanted to recover as soon as possible so as not to miss the disco party. 23) In five days I was well and on Saturday I was happy to dance at the disco.

1) There are many interesting places to visit in our town. 2) Among them there are lots of museums, an art gallery, a theme park, a planetarium and others. 3) But I’d like to tell you about the Historical Museum I’ve recently visited. 4) Out teacher of History took my class there. 5) To tell the truth, most of my classmates didn’t want to go there first. 6) They didn’t expect this excursion to be interesting and educative. 7) But I’ve always been interested in the history of our region. 8) To my mind, visiting the Historical Museum is always very interesting. 9) There is no other place where you can learn about the history of the place you live in. 10) As a result, neither I nor my classmates were disappointed at the excursion. 11) The Historical Museum is situated in the centre of our city. 12) It was founded at the beginning of the twentieth century. 13) The museum has several halls. 14) Each hall contains exhibits dedicated to different periods of the development of our region. 15) The exhibition of every hall includes sculptures, photos, personal things and other displays from a certain historical period. 16) Our guide, a pleasant looking woman, told us many interesting facts connected with the history of our region and our city. 17) We learned a lot about the history of the foundation of our city, life before World War I, about patrons and famous people who made their contribution to the development of science and art of the city and our country. 18) We were greatly impressed by facts from the life of people in our city during the Great Patriotic War and their struggle for victory. 19) The guide’s story was really absorbing. 20) She made us feel a part of history, people who will be responsible for the future of our city and our country. 21) And it’s impossible to build the future without knowing and respecting the past. 22) To my mind, the visit to the Historical Museum was really educative and useful, because the facts we learnt there can’t be found in any textbook on History.
