I study at the Kerch Maritime Technological University. Our University is a unique higher educational institution which trains the staff for fishing branch.

Our university was established in 1984. It has two departments day-time and extramural. There are two faculties at our university: technological and marine.

The technological faculty trains economists, social workers, technologists and engineers for the seafood processing industry. Future navigators, ecologists, ma­rine engineers, electricians study at the marine faculty.

In order to become well-trained engineer students study different subjects, such as: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Foreign languages, descriptive geome­try and many other special subjects. Students attend lectures, work at the labs, have lessons and seminars.

Our university has many laboratories which are equipped with modem de­vices. According to the curriculum there is planned practice for every student of our university.

The course of studies lasts four years. The academic year has two terms: au­tumn and spring. At the end of each we take examinations.

The university includes 5 training buildings and the comfortable, 8-storeyed hostel where accommodations are offered to all nonresident students of daytime and extramural education.

Three sailing training ships: “Sedov”, “Kruzenshtern” and “Palada”, the Marine Base located on the western coast of the strait of Kerch are at the disposal of the university. The marine training center as the division of fishing branch for training and certification of shipboard personnel according to STCW Convention -78/95 was established.

Also the university comprises Kerch Ship-building Technical School.

The University has the courses to prepare for entering the University. Under the auspices of the University on the basis of the secondary school No. 14 educational and up-bringing complex “Maritime Technical Lyceum” was established, where schoolchildren are prepared to enter the Kerch Maritime Technological University. As a trend of the vocational guidance work the University keeps close links with secondary schools, gymnasiums and lyceums of the central and eastern Crimea.

As a part of the Students’ Club there are eleven art students’ groups. Among them there are the following teams: the Students’ Theatre, Vocal and Instrumental groups, the group of dance, the team of Merry and Quick-Witted People Club, the theatre studio, etc. The Students’ Theatre “Reflections” is a constant participant of the international festival of the Ancient Drama “Bosporus Agones” which is held annually in Kerch. The theatre Studio of KSMTU is a constant participant of the youth municipal holidays.

Graduates of KSMTU work on fishing and transport vessels of the fishing industry, in the ports, at the ship-building and ship-repairing plants, fish-processing plants, at the fish reproduction enterprises, ecological inspections, in the scientific research institutes, project designing agencies and various state institutions as well as at the enterprises of various forms of property.
