Applying electrical braking methods of electric drive

Electrical braking is widely used in electric drives, especially in those, which at conditions of technological process are often started.

For providing of required braking time and positional accuracy in practice it is better to apply dynamic braking. For this purpose counter switching braking is applied very seldom.

It is better to use dynamic braking for unidirectional drive, because at this the general scheme of drive will be simpler, comparatively with applying of counter switching brake.

For reverse electric drives, where braking and starting of the motor in inverse direction are represented as overall process, it is reasonable to use counter switching brake, which gives saving of time comparatively with dynamic brake.

Except particular cases of EDs braking of transport and load-lifting mechanisms, recuperative brake is applied in individual cases of speed regulation, when the motor, passing to lower speed has the speed

Since dynamic braking has the better characteristics comparatively with other braking modes, there are the cases of regulated ED, in which only dynamic brake is applied in all possible cases of ED operation modes for simplification of ED general scheme (for example, in some models of electric locomotives).
