Ladies and gentlemen! Dear colleagues! Distinguished participants / guests! Esteemed colleagues! Dear friends! It is a great honor / privilege / pleasure for me to chair this discussion/plenary session / sitting.

We are glad to welcome you at our conference. I hope the conference will do all of us good. I wish you had a fruitful discussion of.../ a useful exchange of ideas and opinions. The time limit for speeches / reports is... I hope that by the end of the discussion we will achieve an understanding of several important questions.

Shall we start? Shall we get down to business? Being a chairman of this conference I declare it open. Let us open the discussion. The conference / symposium is declared open.
