Armor is a combined arms force. It is an arm of speed and violence. Armor is fast, highly mobile, has great fire power and produces shock effect.

The armored division is the principal organization of armor. It is capable of conducting independent armor operations. The division includes a division base and eleven combat maneuver battalions --- six of them are tank battalions and five mechanized infantry battalions. The division base of the armored division has almost the same organization of that in any other type of divisions. It includes the division headquarters, headquarters company, three brigade headquarters, and a military police company. These are command and control elements. The armored division artillery and the armored cavalry squadron are combat elements. The combat support elements consist of an armored engineer battalion and an armored signal battalion. And the last part of the division base is the service support elements, which are called the support command.

The infantry is the oldest of the combat arms. From the dawn of time, wars have been predominantly fought by men on foot. That is why it has been often described as “the Queen of Battle”. This role of the first and foremost combat arm is retained by the infantry to this day. Its mission is to close with the enemy by fire and maneuver in order to destroy or capture him, or to repel his attack by fire, close combat, or counterattack. As a rule infantry is supported by other arms.

There are five types of divisions in the US Army: infantry, mechanized infantry, armored, airborne and airmobile. They are formed by combining a division base with a varying proportion of combat maneuver battalions of different types.

The mechanized infantry division consists of a division base and ten combat maneuver battalions, six of them are mechanized infantry battalions and four tank battalions.
