II. Role- play

Role-card 1:You are Mr Hunt, the Managing Director of “Green and Co”. You meet your Ukrainian colleague at the trade exhibition. Introduce your colleagues to your partners. Speak about the scope of the exhibition and the main companies taking part in it. Model M 805 machine-tools is the best model displayed on your stand.

Role-card 2:You are Mr Adams, the Finance Manager of “Green and Co”. Speak with the Ukrainian partner about terms of price and delivery. You are not interested in discount because your machines are sold well, but you can agree to a 3% discount.

Role-card 3: You are Mr Freer, the Sales Manager of “Green and Co”. Say, that it won’t be a problem to arrange training of Ukrainian specialists. Propose to send a supervisor to Ukraine.

Role-card 4: You are the Sales Manager of “Ukrainian import“. Introduce your colleagues to your British partner. You are impressed by the scope of the exhibition. You got interested in Model M 805 machine-tools and saw them in operation. Ask for the date of signing the contract. Take part in discussing contract terms.

Role-card 5: You are the Marketing Manager of “Ukrainian import”. You would like to place an order for 50 machine tools with “Green and Co”. Discuss the delivery terms and the price with Mr Adams. Ask for a 5% discount.

Role-card 6: You are the personnel Manager of “Ukrainian import”. Discuss the terms of training for your specialists with Mr Freer.  

Example dialogue:

- Glad to meet you, Mr Hunt. Haven’t seen you for ages. How do you find the exhibition?

- It’s great indeed.

- I’m impressed by its scope. How many companies take part in it?

- Over 350,000 I’ve heard. Have you seen our stand?

- Yes, your stand-attendant was very friendly and showed us your latest Model M 805 machine tools.

- Oh, yes, and I hope you like it.

- Moreover, we’d like to place an order for 50 machines. The model meets our requirements, but the price looks a bit higher than on the world market.

- The fact is that it is sold well at this price. And we’ve already received good profit.

- Will that be possible to give us a 5% discount?

- I think we can agree to a 3% discount as we’ve been good partners for long.

- Settled.

- One more thing, Mr Freer. We’d like you to arrange training of our specialists here, in Britain, to operate these machines.

- I’m sure it won’t be a problem. By the way, we can also send our supervisor to Ukraine.

- That sounds good!

IV. Гра-імпровізація.

Ukrainian businessmen attend the French pavilion at the international fair in Vienna. They discuss the model on display and negotiate possible contract terms. They are particularly interested in terms of delivery as the manufacturing company is heavy with orders.
