We’ve all known a “Renaissance man” or “Renaissance woman” – someone highly intellectual and artistic, with seemingly endless interests and talents in a variety of subjects. They can paint, play the violin, understand Newtonian physics, speak four languages and bake an amazing soufflé. So unfair. How did this term come about? The Renaissance movement began in Italy in the 15th century and spread to other parts of Europe – most notably to the Low Countries (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg). Meaning ‘rebirth’, the Renaissance emphasized humanism and the importance of the individual – this ideal was most evident in the art of that era. Take our quiz, and see what Renaissance art is all about.
