2. Dazzling treasures of outstanding beauty and elegant craftsmanship from one of the world’s most famous museums go on display in this land-mark exhibition at the Royal Armouric Treasures: ArsenalofRussian Tsars marks the 300-th anniversary of Peter the Great’s visit here in 1697 – 1698, and it is the first ever complete exhibition to be mounted in the UK.

Focusing on the 17-th and 18-th centuries, the exhibition covers one of the most brilliant periods in the evolution of Russian art and craftsmanship and pivots on (= сосредоточена вокруг) the central figure of Peter the Great. The exhibition includes a large number of examples of priceless collection of Tsars’ great military processions. Among these objects is one of the greatest treasures – the Fericho [fe´rɪkə] Cap (Helmet) of Tsar Mikhail Fyodorovich.

3. It is the biggest and best collection in the world. Unusual craft from different cultures have their own style and personality. Enjoy displays of the conquest of water, bravery, romance, adventure and mystery. Feel the texture and admire the artistry and marvelous workmanship. Explore and dumb aboard the exhibits then cross the canal on the “floating bridge” ferry. Fascination and fun for everyone. It is surprising what you’ll learn.

4. The splendid two-story mansion standing between the two modern structures towering at both ends of the wide street looks as if it does not belong there. But it was the Count’s former country residence. The Count did not wish to pursue a military career; instead he devoted himself to music, literature and the theatre. So the palace’s main attraction is its theatre. It was used to stage dramas and operas fashionable in the 18-th century. The company consisted of many talented serfs. The building is one of the few surviving examples of classicism represented by several types of pictures from the main European schools of painting. The Italian pavilion is adorned with sculptures. There is a rare collection of elegant chandeliers, wall lamps, candelabra and girandoles.

5. Visiting here is like discovering a different world. First you find yourself in a “tropical rain forest" complete with ponds and water falls. Lush (= пышный) tropical plants and flowers tower over your head, and exotic fruit such as kiwi and pineapple flourish. Whenever you look, you will see lots of butterflies from all over the world. They come in kaleidoscope of colours from brilliant electric blue to subtle camouflage tones and display wing spans ranging from less than an inch to one foot. They live and breed here as they would in the wild. You can study every stage of their life cycle at close quarters and can even witness the magic of a butterfly emerging from its crystalis in our special hatchery. An integrating range of fish, birds, terrapins and other creatures share the butterflies habitat (= среда обитания), and help to make it even more fascinating.

6. This complex of great artistic and architectural value was built in the latter half of the 17-th and early 18-th centuries. The construction of the Monastery was financed by the Chancellor of Grand Duchy of Lithuania, its authors were the Italian architects Ludovico Fredo, Carlo and Pietro Puttini. The ensemble includes a church, a monastery, a forestorium, three houses, a bell tower, and farm buildings. All the buildings in the ensemble are arranged symmetrically, along a longitudinal axis. The centre of the entire ensemble being the church with a dome with the stucco-work (= лепная работа) which is considered one of the finest examples of the baroque style in Northern Europe. It was made by craftsmen of the Lombardy school.

7. Several works of art made from wheatstraw are a new blossom in the garden of Chinese arts and crafts. The process of making them is a unique one. The first stage in the actual making of a picture is to apply colours on to a piece of silk or paper serving as the background. The covering, being light thin and lustrous, is used to make more complicated objects e.g. figures, animals, flowers, pavilions while the pitch, which is dense and dullish, is used in rocks, hills, tree trunks and other simple or distant objects.
