The paper deals with the trends of global crises including macroeconomic policy, globalization, and re-industrialization. Prospects of Russian economic policy for modernization are discussed in the context of challenges of 20^th century crises.

The article examines the processes occurring in the world in terms of the theory of economic cycles and the crisis. The level and dynamics of the values of some important macroeconomic indicators in major countries around the world, including developed countries of the OECD and some BRICS countries, are analyzed. The factors and the perspectives on the development of modern Russian economy are determined. The social policies, contributing to the overcome of the crisis are provided.

The specialty of the article is an innovative approach to analyzing competition. The systemic setup of competition follows from its functional features inherent in it and includes three components: a fundamental principle of the market economy, an interaction mechanism and a means of achieving economic objectives by competitors. Each component is realized in the form of a separate subsystem with specific organization, functions it fulfills and forms of existence. A new concept of competition is put forward to view it as an evolution process of the complicated system.
