OBJECT AND SUBJECT OF THE RESEARCH

It was formerly believed that if all material things disappeared out if the universe, time and space would be left. According to the relativity theory, however, time and space disappear together with the things.

The object of the research is a contract as a part of a business deal and a type of written business English.

The subject comprises investigation of linguistic features, in particular structural-semantic and pragmatic peculiarities of a contract which make technique of its writing obligatory for people involved in drawing up business documents.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES

The aim of the project is to provide an integrated classification of metaphor and give a comprehensive analysis of the semantic and pragmatic peculiarities of metaphor as a means of speech manipulation in political discourse.

This aim presupposes the solution of the following tasks:

- to characterize metaphor as a means of secondary nomination;

- to define the main types and functions of metaphor;

- to reveal the conceptual nature of metaphor;

- to explicate the manipulative potential of metaphor;

- to analyse the use of metaphor as a means of speech manipulation in eight public speeches delivered by G.W.Bush.
