Exercise 23. Form all possible questions to the following sentences:

1. Mr. Smith reads the Times after breakfast. 2. He lives in a small town in the North of Poland. 3. The children are at home. 4. Ann is helping her mother in the kitchen. 5. My elder daughter doesn’t like porridge. 6. I don’t like to go there alone. 7. Robert is thinking it over. 8. Kayla Smith cooks meat very well. 9. Mrs. Jenkins is going around here. 10. The teacher always corrects our test-papers in time. 12. The boy never obeys his grandmother. 13. The dogs in the street are barking too loudly. 14. My children like playing computer games. 15. He doesn’t want to eat beetroot salad. 16. The Morozovs are leaving for Minsk in two hours. 17. Amanda is always grumbling! 18. Rodger never sees his mistakes. 19. Exercise 24. Put the verbs in brackets into the Present Simple and the Present Continuous.

1. Mr. Smith (to teach) us at present. He (to substitute) for Mr. Reese, who (to be) our regular teacher. 2. “I (to go) to visit Peter tonight. Exercise 25. Fill in the blanks with the Present Simple or the Present Continuous tense of the verbs given in brackets.

Exercise 28. Use the verb in brackets in the Pr. Simple or the Pr. Cont.

Exercise 29. Make up a situation based on the following sentences, using simple and continuous forms. Use the phrases suggested in brackets.

1. We are having visitors tonight (to do the room, to lay the table, to sit down to table, to serve the visitors first, to have an interesting talk, to have a dance). 2. John is leaving for his vacation tomorrow (to pack one’s things, to telephone one’s friends, not to be late for the train, not to forget one’s sports clothes, etc.). 3. I’m not working very hard at the moment (to have spare time, to take regular walks, to work at one’s course paper, to feel weak after the flu, to read detective stories, etc.). 4. Mary is being kind, isn’t she? (to behave differently, to be known as a cruel person, to be a surprise, to expect such attitude of someone, to be in an especially good humour, etc.). 5. Why don’t you accept the offer? I think you are being rather foolish (to think something over, to argue with someone, to have difficulty with your studies, to accept a proposal, etc.).

Exercise 30. Translate into English:

1. Студенты сдают экзамены. Не шумите в коридоре. 2. Посмотри, как ярко светит солнце. 3. Вы слышите шум в коридоре? 4. Подождите немного, они сейчас ужинают. 5. 9-го Мая тысячи людей приходят на Красную Площадь. 6. Вы любите смотреть телевизор? 7. Я не слышу, о чем они говорят, так как они говорят слишком тихо. 8. Студенты сдают экзамены два раза в год. 23. Моя подруга устраивает сегодня вечер. 24. Когда они устраивают вечер, они обычно приглашают всю нашу семью. 25. Мальчики, почему вы все время спорите и ссоритесь из-за пустяков?! Я же знаю, что вы большие друзья. 26. Вечно ты ворчишь! Если ты не перестанешь ворчать и всем давать указания, ты поссоришься со всеми своими друзьями и со мной тоже.

Exercise 31. Translate into English using the Present Simple or the Present Continuous:
