Radio and TV

It is impossible to overestimate the role of TV and radio today. They not only entertain people, they are their teachers and advisers, real friends and partners.

Radio holds one of the leading positions among the greatest achievements of mankind. Invented in the XIX century by Alexander Popov, an outstanding Russian inventor, it has laid the basis for all further developments and improvements in the radio engineering field.

Radio became one of the major sources of information for millions of people all over the world. It allows many people in far away countries to be in the know and follow all the events that are going on in the world.

Television opened up a new era in the development of the media. It was invented at the end of the XIX century and made a sensation.

Today TV is an integral part of our life. No medium can compare with it as a means of information, education and entertainment. However many people think that television has both advantages and drawbacks.

On the one hand, it's not only a convenient source of information and entertainment, but also a cheap one. We can see various fdms, listen to music, political discussions, watch football matches, different sport competitions, etc. We learn much about all current events in our country and abroad, the latest achievements in science, technology, the greatest discoveries, etc.

On the other hand, television begins to dominate in our lives, making many of us a bit passive. There are some other disadvantages: poor quality of some programs, their harmful effect on many people, especially children, a lot of boring advertizing, etc.

There are many arguments for and against television. But we must realize that TV itself is as good or bad as we make it.

British broadcasting has been based on the principle that it is a public service. Following 1950 legislation, it is also embracing the principles of competition and choice.
