Some observations on the phonetics

Vowels sounds as well as the vowels letters, in Russian - 10.

Vowels letters (and sounds) are: а, е, ё, и, о у, ы, э, ю, я.

Consonant sounds the same - 21.

They are: б, в, г, д, ж, з, й, к, л, м, н, п, р, с, т, ф, х, ц, ч, ш, щ.

Of the 23 consonants do not have your own pronunciation only two letters: [ъ] (hard sign) and [ь] (soft sign).

The letter [ъ] is used only in cases of separation of certain prefixes ending in a consonant sound, from the following vowel sound. For example: без ъ я дерный, воле из ъ я вление, из ъ я ть etc.

The letter [ь] used to softing the consonants. Not all available in Russian language consonants can softate Undergo a soft sign. Softed by the following consonants: б, в, г, д, ж, з, л, м, н, п, р, с, т, ф, ч, ш, щ.

Also, in the Russian language either written or verbal contract is not repeated letters [й] and [э] (there is no shortcut type: йй, ээ), and no letters do not appear in the same word 3 times in a row (there is no combinations such as: [ббб] [ааа] [ммм] [ччч] [ооо] and so forth). But there are cases where 3 consecutive times in one word meets the letter [е]:

1) длиннош еее животное (animal with a long neck):

длин + н + о + ш е + ее (root ДЛИН + suffix Н + suffix О + root Ш Е + ending ЕЕ);

2) зм еее д (a person who eats snakes):

зм е + е + е д (root ЗМ Е + suffix Е + root Е Д).

Также, в русском языке ни письменно, ни устно не повторяются подряд буквы [й] и [э] (т.е. не бывает сочетаний типа: йй, ээ), и никакие буквы не встречаются в одном слове 3 раза подряд (не бывает сочетаний типа: [ббб], [ааа], [ммм], [ччч], [ооо] и так далее). Но есть случаи, когда 3 раза подряд в одном слове встречается буква [е]:

1) длиннош еее животное (животное с длинной шеей):

длин + н + о + ш е + ее (корень ДЛИН + суффикс Н + суффикс О + корень Ш Е + окончание ЕЕ);

2) зм еее д (человек, который ест змей):

зм е + е + е д (корень ЗМ Е + суффикс Е + корень Е Д).

The combination OOO can occur either as an abbreviation (for example, reducing phrases denoting a business organization possesses certain (but not all possible) legal rights: Общество с Ограниченной Ответственностью (Limited Liability Company), (有限 责任 会 社)), or as initials (the first letters of surname, name and patronymic of the person. example: Óльга Олéговна Острóвская (Olga Olegovna Ostrovskaya)).

There are a few words with the letter [Ы]. All of them are of foreign-language origin. Basically, it is the names of people, real and fictional characters or the names of geographic features. In the Russian language in everyday speech of the words actually used.

Accent [ ´ ] in a nutshell is put only on the vowel sounds. The emphasis in principle can not fall in a consonant letter, as conditioned by the presence of key words in the word exactly vowels.

Usually accent when writing words, sentences or text is used. In a case when writing word accent is put on purpose. This is to ensure that when reading word not confuse it with another word having the same spelling (but completely different meaning), or in order to prevent any confusion with other word form its shape (when the same word is a different number of, case, etc.). For example:

- Singular, genitive: слóва. For example: “Ему достаточно одного слóва” (“It is enough a word”).

- Plural, nominative: словá. For example: “Словá любви произносят от сердца” (“Utter words of love from the heart”).

Vowel sound [ё] is always striking. And if there is a letter [ё] in the word, the emphasis in the pronunciation of the word f without exception falls to the corresponding sound.

Combinations [шь] and [щь] at their pronunciation in the spoken language is no different from the usual sound sounds [ш] and [щ]. In these combinations, the letter [ь] is not so much to soften the sound "ш" and "щ" as to indicate that the words that end with a combination of [шь] and [щь] are either verb second-person singular of the present tense (делае шь, понимае шь, говори шь), or the third declension noun (мы шь, ту шь, помо щь, ве щь).

Combinations [ць] and [хь] in Russian language does not occur. If some of them appear in the speech or written sources, it is only in foreign words (human names or the names of something).
