6. Read and translate the text.

The state of ichthyopathological situation is a very important natural factor influencing bioresources development in the water body. The work by V.A. Dogel and B.N. Bykhovsky could be considered the first report on parasites of fish in the Caspian basin. 170 parasite species were mentioned in that work.

In 1956-1959 mass mortality of common carp and some other species was noted in the Lower Volga. The reason for the “winter” diseases was in toxication with products of metabolism of blue-green algae that developed intensively after construction of reservours and hydroelectric stations on the Volga.

Water body pollution caused the appearance of tumor diseases of two types – dermatofibrosarcoma of zanger and papilloma of catfish skin. dermatofibrosarcoma of zanger is a malignant virus disease characterized by new growth of fish skin. It is spread everywhere in the Volga and Northern Caspian sea. The annual loss caused by this disease is over 3000 tonnes of fish. Papilloma of catfish is a benign skin affection.15-17% of fish is contaminated with it in the Volga Delta. The annual loss caused by this disease reaches 216 tonnes.

Parasite diseases of juveniles are often the reason of mass mortality. Apophalesis cause damage of 80% of carp juveniles of size group 20-25 mm.

Research of the Caspian Basin hydrobionts showed a critical state of ichthyopathologic situation in the water body, which caused the appearance of new diseases. In the Volga-Caspian Region loss of fish products due to diseases reaches more than 8000 tonnes annually.

As seen above, the state of ichthyopathologic situation significantly impacts bioresources formation and defines, to considerable extent, the quality of fish products.
