Text 3. Main parts of a presentation

Most presentations are divided into 3 main parts (plus questions):

1. Introduction

2. Body

3. Conclusion

The introduction is a very important part of the presentation. You should concentrate on getting your introduction right. You should welcome your audience, introduce your subject, outline the structure of your presentation, and give instructions about questions.

The body is the real presentation. If the introduction was well prepared and delivered, you will now be “in control”. The body should be well structured, divided up logically, with plenty or carefully spaced visuals.

Closing and dealing with questions use these tips:

1. Sum up

2. Thank your audience

3. Invite questions.

Questions are good opportunity for you to interact with the audience. Be polite with all questioners, even if they ask difficult questions. They are showing interest in what you have to say and they deserve attention.

Task I. Answer the questions:

1. What are the main parts of presentation?

2. What is introduction?

3. What can we use in the introduction?

4. What is the body of presentation?

5. What keys should we remember in the body?

6. For what purpose do we use conclusion?

7. What is the role of questions?

Task II. Translate into Russian:

Good morning ladies and gentleman!

I’m going to talk about ….

To start with I’ll describe ….

Finally, I’ll summarize my presentation….

I am going to talk today about ….

In conclusion….

Many thanks for your attention.

Do you have any questions?

Task III. Read the following signaling phrases and say which of them you can use:

A) At the beginning of the presentation

B) Turning from one point to another

C) At the end of the presentation

1. To illustrate this point;

2. I will start with …and then I will move on to …;

3. Thank you very much for your attention;

4. I’m going to be talking about …;

5. Now, I’d be glad to answer your questions;

6. Let’s move on to…;

7. In conclusion I’d like to say …;

8. Let’s look now at …;

9. Let me summarize briefly what I’ve said;

10. First of all, I’ll…

Task IV. Here are a number of phrases used when making a presentation. Look at the phrases and sort them into the table given below:

ü Turning to… ü Right, let’s sum up, shall we? ü I’d like to start by… ü Are there any questions? ü As an illustration….. ü Next… ü Let’s begin by … ü For example… ü That’s all I have to say about … ü Can I answer any questions? ü We’ve looked at…   ü First of all, I’ll ü Now we’ll move on to …. ü Well, I’ve told you about… ü In conclusion… ü A good example of this is … ü Now I’ll try to answer any questions you may have. ü To give you an example… ü Let me turn now to … ü I’d like to recap …..

Introducing the subject Finishing one subject…. ….and starting another Giving an example Summarizing and concluding Dealing with questions

Task V. Make your own presentation of the following companies:

1. Coca-cola

2. L’Oreal

3. McDonalds

4. Honda

5. Apple

6. Nestle

But don’t forget about the following rules:
