VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT/ IDLING SPEED ADJUSTMENT

ENGINE

VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT

NOTE:

Valve clearance adjustment should be carried out at room temperature with the engine cold.

When the valve clearance is to be measured or adjus- ted, the piston must be at Top Dead Centre (TDC) on the compression stroke.

1. Remove:

• Double seat

• Compartment

• Swing protector

2. Remove:

• Spark plug

• Valve cover (intake side)

• Valve cover (exhaust side)

3. Remove:

• Rubber cover from ignition lid

4. Measure:

• Valve clearance Ø

If not as specified —(adjust

	Valve clearance (cold): Intake valve 0.10 ~ 0.14 mm
Exhaust valve 0.16 ~ 0.20mm

• Rotate the steering clockwise to align the slit §a on the rotor with the stationary pointer §b on the crank

cover when the piston is Top Dead Centre (TDC).

b • Measure the valve clearance by using a feeler

5. Adjusting:

• The valve clearance

• Loosen the lock-nut Ø

• Turn the adjuster Ø in or out with the valve adjusting tool Ø until the specified clearance is obtained.

Turning in —(Valve clearance is decreased
Turning out —(Valve clearance is increased
	Valve adjusting tool: 90890-01311

• Hold the adjuster to prevent it from moving and tigh- ten the wing-nut.

14 Nm (1,4 m • kg)

• Measure the valve clearance

• If the clearance is incorrect, repeat the above steps until specified clearance is obtained.

• Valve cover (intake side) Ø

1 10 Nm (1,0 m • kg)

2 • O-ring Ø

7. Install:

• Valve cover (exhaust side)

10 Nm (1,0 m • kg)

• O-ring

• Spark plug

18 Nm (1,8 m • kg)

• Rubber stopper

IDLING SPEED ADJUSTMENT

1. Start the engine and let it warm up for several
