Now I live in Tikhoretsk with my parents and my grandfather. I am just out of school and I am glad to be a first year student of Railway College. I am neither tall nor short. My eyes are blue and my hair is fair, straight and long. I think I am not slim, I am overweight a little. I am sociable and have a lot of friends. My best friend’s name is Tanya. We meet every day because she lives next door. We like to chat about different things and go out together. On Sundays we usually go to the cinema. My hobbies are reading horour books and collecting posters with my favourite pop singers on them. I enjoy helping my mother about the house. Especially I like to help my mother with the cooking. I think it will give me good experience for the future. When I am free I go to the stadium to play basketball with my friends. To my mind it’s important to be fit and healthy. I enjoy playing computer games.

1.5. Tell the class about yourself (Расскажите классу о себе).
I think that this is silly, irritating tomfoolishness which plagues us, this “weather forecast” fraud is the most aggravating. It “forecasts” The next morning we read that it was going to be “warm, fine day; much heat”, and we dressed ourselves in flimsy things, and went out, and, it began raining hard, and a bitterly cold wind sprang up and both kept steadily for the whole day, and we came home with colds and rheumatism all over us and went to bed. There was one hanging up in a hotel in Oxford at which I was staying last spring, and when I got there it was pointing to “set fair”. It was simply pouring with rain outside, and had been all day; and I couldn’t quite make matters out. I tapped the barometer, and it jumped up and pointed to “very dry”. A man stopped as he was passing and said he expected it meant tomorrow. I fancied that maybe it was thinking of the week before last. I tapped it again the next morning, and it went up still higher, and the rain came down faster and faster then ever. On Wednesday I went and hit it again, and the pointer went round towards “set fair”, and “much heat”, until it stopped by the peg, and couldn’t go any further. Meanwhile, the rain came down in a steady torrent, and the lower part of the town was under water as the river has overflowed. Somebody said that it was evident we were going to have a prolonged spell of grand weather some time… The fine weather never came that summer. I think that the instrument referred to the following spring. Then there are those new styles of barometers, the long, straight ones. I never can make head or tail of them. But then who wants to know what the weather is going to be? It is bad enough when it comes. The prophet we like is the old man who, on the gloomy-looking morning of some day when we want it to be fine, looks round the horizon with a knowing eye, and says: “Oh, no, sir, I think it will clear up all right. It will break all right enough, sir”.
