KEY TERMINOLOGY

closet drama a play that is designed mainly to be read but not to be performed on the stage
melodrama an exaggerated, sensational form of drama characterized by heavy use of romance, suspense, and emotion
novel of adventure a type of fiction in which exciting events and fast paced actions are more important than character development
historical novel a type of fiction that has as its setting a period of history and that attempts to convey the spirit, manners, and social condition of a past age with realistic detail and fidelity
