Use a continuous form in the required tense choosing a suitable verb from the list. Explain the spelling of the participle




Add tag-questions to the following statements and give short answers, negative or affirmative. Use full forms or contracted forms.

INDEFINITE AND CONTINUOUS FORMS

Translate the following sentences into English. Define the type of the subordinate clause and account for the choice of the tense expressing a future action.

1. Знаете ли вы, когда закончится этот семестр и на­чнутся экзамены? 2. Как только закончатся экзамены, все студенты разъедутся по домам. 3. Я сомневаюсь, успеем ли мы вовремя все приготовить к вечеру (приему гостей). 4. Интересно, когда же приедет Лена. Попроси ее послать телеграмму, когда она будет точно знать дату приезда, и мы ее встретим на вокзале. 5. Когда бы Мери ни при­шла — даже если она придет после двенадцати, разбудите меня и я ей все расскажу сам. 6. Я хочу познакомить вас с девушкой, которая впервые будет петь на нашем концер­те. 7. Не знаю, пойдет ли Джон в кино после того, как вер­нется с работы. 8. Интересно, сколько студентов примет участие в соревновании, если оно состоится в июле. Боюсь, что многие уедут домой. 9. Не знаете ли вы, когда уходит последний поезд? Думаю, что мы опоздаем, если он уходит в 11.30. 10. Я уверен, что Анна опоздает или придет в самую последнюю минуту. Воз­можно, что мы будем сдавать экзамен по грамматике во время весенней сессии. Будет трудно подготовиться, если нам дадут только три дня перед экзаменом. 18. Make appropriate questions for these answers. Ask them and give shorter answers: they will sound more natural.

Why didn't Ann play with the children?

Because she had a headache.

1. The bell rings at eight sharp. 2. No, I don't remember his address. 3. You can't go out yet: it is raining very hard. 4. Peter is getting on at school quite well. He seems to like it. 5. 19. Determine the meaning of the continuous forms. Do the sentences in this exercise cover alt the mean­ings of the continuous forms or can you add some more?
