Ø No, I am busy on Friday. Can he see me on Saturday.

Ø Only if it is an emergency.

Ø Well, I feel very bad.

Ø How are you today?

Ø Not so good. I think I have the flu or something.

Ø What are your symptoms?

Ø I have a fever, chills, and sore throat.

Ø Let’s take a look. Open wide. (The doctor checks your throat for signs of infection)

Ø Hmmm, your throat is pretty red. How long have you had a fever?

Ø Since last night. It comes and goes. What is wrong with me?

Ø You have some sort of bacterial infection. I’m going to write you a prescription. Take it to any drug store. And they’ll give you some pills that you’ll need to take for five days. You should be completely well by then.

Ø Thanks. I sure wish I felt better. I guess I’ll go home and rest.

Doctor: What seems to be the trouble?

Patient: I’ve got a cough and a headache. I’m all feverish.

Doctor: Did you take your temperature?

Patient: Yes, it’s 38.2.

Doctor: How long have you been feeling this way?

Patient: Since yesterday. It’s flu, isn’t it?

Doctor: I’m afraid that’s what it is. And no wonder with so much flu about. It’s very contagious disease. Why didn’t you call me yesterday?

Patient: I thought I would be all right.

Doctor: I’ll write out a prescription. This medicine is for your headache and it will send your temperature down. Take it every four hours after meals. You can buy the medicine at the nearest chemist’s round the corner.

Patient: Will the flu last long, doctor?

Doctor: I hope you’ll be well again in a week’s time, but I expect you to follow all my instructions. As soon as you feel better come to my surgery for a follow-up examination. If you don’t feel better in a week call me again.

Patient: Thank you, doctor.

Doctor: Not at all.

Ø My assistant said you have a toothache. How long have you had it?

Ø For about twenty-four hours. I’ve had trouble with this tooth before. My dentist at home said that it would eventually have to be removed.
