1). Hello! My name is Marina. I’m 19 years old and I come from a town called Novogrudok. I’m a student and I live at a hostel. I study at the University. My elder brother is also a student of the University and lives at a hostel too. We are going to become teachers.

2). There is very little I can tell you about my friend.

You know he is an orphan (сирота). His parents died many years ago. He used to live with his grandmother in his childhood. He hasn’t got any other close relatives except her. He is a good sportsman now and he doesn’t like to speak about himself.

Let me introduce myself. I’m Svetlana Alexandrova. I was born on the 29^th of March, 1985 in Smolensk under the zodiac sign of Aries. I believe that stars influence our fate and character. As you see, I’m Aries. They say that Aries is full of energy, a leader, a straight talker, ambitious and frank, likes sport, stubborn, hot temper, but quick to apologize. Partially it is true. I can’t admit that I am stubborn. Actually, I’m persistent. It is different, I think.

As to my appearance, I’m rather tall and slim. I think, I’m even-tempered, rather reserved, calm and modest. But sometimes I can lose my temper and become either angry or sad. I like staying alone and sometimes I retire into my shell. But at the same time I like my friends, I like to laugh and to joke. I have got a sense of humour. It means that I understand humour and appreciate it. But unfortunately, I’m not often witty myself. I think, I am able to “ keep my head when all about me are losing theirs” and to stand up to difficulties when things are not going my way. Besides, I’m sincere and tolerant, friendly and faithful, hard-working and serious.

There are many things in our life that I like and dislike. I like when everything is OK. Being happy is one way of being wise. I like to study, because knowledge is useful sometimes. I am fond of reading. Sometimes I enjoy watching TV or listening to the music. I am sure that music makes people better. I’m fond of horses and equestrian skill. I dislike overcrowded buses. And I hate getting up early. I’m happy I have got more things that I like than I dislike.

My family

Our family is not very large. I have а father, а mother, а brother and а sister. We all live together in а new flat in one of the industrial districts of Smolensk.

My father Igor Ivanovich is 45 years old. He is а tall and well-built man with short black hair and grey eyes. He works at а big automobile plant as an engineer. He likes his work and spends most of his time there. By character my father is а quiet man, while my mother is energetic and talkative. Her name is Olga Petrovna. She is а teacher of music and plays the piano well. She is intelligent, patient and always ready to help. I’vе got good relations with my mum. She is always interested in what I do, and I can always ask her for advice. I love her very much though I love my father not less.

My sister’s name is Alla. She has blue eyes and lovely fair hair. She is а very good-looking girl. Alla is three years younger than me. She is а pupil of the 9^th form. She does well at school and gets only good and excellent marks. Alla has а good sense of humour and is very popular with her friends at parties.

My name is Tanya. I’m 19 years old. I resemble my mother in appearance but take after my father in nature. People say I’m an easy-going person. I have many friends. They come to my place very often.

Our family is very united. We like to spend time together and help our mother about the house. In the evenings we watch TV, read books and newspapers, listen to music or just discuss everyday problems. Our parents don’t always agree with us but they take into consideration our opinion. All of us like to spend our week-ends out of town. We often go to the village to see our grandparents. They are old-age pensioners now but prefer to live in the country.

I also have some other relatives: uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends. We are happy when we are together. It is really very important to have а good family where all people are tactful, helpful, tolerant and respect each other. In such families children get on well with their parents. They are confident, willingly share domestic duties, joys and difficulties, views and opinions. In happy families parents are not bossy and never dominate their children. They teach them to communicate with different people in different situations. It’s nice to have а good family.
