b) new material: Some / Any и их производные.

Для обозначения неопределенного (небольшого) количества предметов или вещества употребляются неопределенные местоимения some и any. Они обычно являются определениями к существительным и стоят вместо артикля. Some употребляется в утвердительных предложениях перед исчисляемыми существительными во множественном числе и перед неисчисляемыми существительными (I’ve got some interesting books to read). Any употребляется в вопросительных и отрицательных предложениях.

Производными данных местоимений являются неопределенные местоимения something, somebody, someone, somewhere; anything, anybody, anyone, anywhere.

Ex. 1. Translate into Russian and explain the meaning of the pronouns some, any.

Ex. 2. Choose the necessary pronoun from in brackets.

Ex. 3. Fill in the blanks with the pronouns some, any.

Ex. 4. Make the following sentences interrogative changing the pronouns (adverbs).

1. You see something on the shelf. 2. We shall go out somewhere at the week-end. 3. She knows something about it. 4. There is somebody in the next room. 5. He has something interesting to tell us. 6. Your friend spent his holidays somewhere near Sochi. 7. You met somebody at that early hour. 8. Some of you play chess.

Ex. 5. Make the following sentences negative changing the pronouns (adverbs) into their compounds with ‘no’.

1. There was somebody in the room five minutes ago. 2. There is something interesting in our club tonight. 3. They went out somewhere last Sunday. 4. I see somebody through the window. 5. Somebody will meet them. 6. He can do something for you. 7. They invited somebody to dine with them. 8. Some of them know English. 9. I heard something about it.

Ex. 6. Complete the following sentences with the pronouns ‘ some ’, ‘ any ’, ‘ no ’, ‘ every ’ and their compounds.
