in conditional reasoning, the generation of an explanation for an event, taken from a theory of how the world works, the plausibility of which depends in large part on the number and the likelihood of the alternative explanations.

psychometric tests which are designed to measure what someone is already able to do, as opposed to what they might be able to learn in the future.

the part of a research report which summarises the whole project, including the outcomes.
