Psychological test
Zigzag EXPLANATION A square symbolises stability and order. Squares always plan their lives, changes and surprises of fate unsettle them. They are very industrious and always finish what they begin. Squares are great thinkers who like to analyse all the details and to systemise information. They are very tolerant. They can be good collectors. A triangle symbolises leadership. Triangles are purposeful, energetic, strong and active. They always know what they wish and usually achieve their aims. Triangles want to be right in every situation, they like to compete and to win, they seldom hesitate. But often they are egoistic and conceited. A rectangle symbolises the state of instability and changes in the given period of time. Rectangles are not satisfied with their lives now they are trying to change everything and to find something more suitable for them. Rectangles are inquisitive, curious and brave. They are looking for their place in life. A round is a symbol of harmony. Rounds are friendly, sympathetic and emotional with well-developed intuition. A zigzag symbolises creativeness. Zigzags have good intuition and an aesthetic world look. They often combine absolutely different ideas making something new and original out of them. They see life in general without details, they are more interested in ideas than in reality, they often live in ideal world that’s why they can be naive, unrealistic and unpractical. Zigzags are very emotional, expressive, witty and original. Daily routine and life without changes bore them to death. Mark the following statements with: I) never; 2) sometimes; 3) often.
1) I always pretend to be somebody. 2) I always feel sure of myself. 3) I realise my mistakes and try to correct them. 4) I like to give advice. 5) I enjoy doing what others want me to do. 6) I easily accept somebody’s leadership and authority. 7) It’s easy for me to understand people because I can always step into their shoes. 8) I always realise my weak sides. 9) I always take advantage of my strong sides. 10) I’d like to get better. Scores: never - 0; sometimes - 1; often - 2. 15-20: You are too self-assured. Don’t forget that there are other people around you. 10-15: High appreciation is combined with your critical mind, your attitude to yourself is rather objective. That’s very good. 5-10: You are self-critical. It’s OK, but don’t forget that you have not only negative but also positive sides. 0-5: You are too self-critical. Don’t be so gloomy! The world is wonderful!

Exercise 21. Write a short summary ( 200-250 words) answering one of these questions. 1. How would you say your national character is different from that of people in other countries? 2. How do you think your character has changed or developed over the years? Are there any aspects of your personality you still don’t like? 3. Write a description of character of one of your fellow students. 4. “The weaker sex? The fairer sex? Not any more!” Contrast the image of women today with that of a few hundred years ago.

And also make sure that the eggs are soft this time – you know hard-boiled eggs don’t agree with me.’ 13. ‘I know it’s the third time now I haven’t turned up for a match, but I overslept. It wasn’t really my fault.’ 14. ‘He’s only doing it for the publicity. I don’t believe for one minute he’s really interested in helping mentally-handicapped people.’ 15. ‘But I believed him when he said he was a famous fashion photographer and could make me into a top model.’ 16. ‘I’m going to get a book published one day. I’m just not going to give up until I do.’
