Stephen is mowing the lawn. Gwen What I’ve thought is first I’d fly to New York and spend a few weeks, and then I’d go up to New England and watch their leaves, what’s it called, the Fall, thenI’d go to Canada and meet Robert and we’d take that train that goes across the mountains and – is this a weed, I’m pulling it out anyway – then we’d go to Alaska. Stephen How are you going to live? Gwen I thought you’d pay for some of it, and then I’d work, waitress or look after children in Canada, they have children there, don’t they? ( a silence) Can you pay for some of it? (a silence) I’m going to be a very limited person if I don’t see the world. Stephen There are lots of things to see in England. Gwen Oh, daddy, Devon, the Lake District, BORING – Sheep. Then Australia, I want to study the Aborigines, New Zealand, Antarctica….. Stephen There are lots of sheep in New Zealand. Gwen Yeah, but they’re not the same, they’ll look different, I’m sure, they’ll be more – well, they won’t be English sheep. And then I could find a world cruise and work as a chamber maid back to England. Or maybe I’ll stay in Australia, will you miss me? Or maybe I could stop in morocco and take a camel across the desert…
