Ex. 34. Read the dialogue about Berlin. Follow the map and pictures. Try to act it out.

Johans: Hello, can I help you?

Tourist: Yes, please, I am here in Berlin for 2 days and I would like to see the major sights. Could you give me any ideas?

J: Oh yes, sure. But you can really see only the major sights in two days, because there is a lot to see in Berlin.

T: What can you recommend to begin with?

J: I suggest you should have a look at the Reichstag and at the Brandenburg Gate, which are marked on the map. Then from the cultural point of view you ought to have a look at Museum Island where you’ll find the famous Pergamon Museum.

T: Is it the collection of fine things from the Middle East that professor Schliman found?

J: Yes, and the exhibition is open today.

T: How do I get there from here?

J: Well, if I were you, I’d take the bus that stops right outside our building, here. It’s the number 100 bus. It takes you to many of the sights in the center of Berlin, to the Tiergarten area. You can see the Victoria Column with the golden angel on the top, the House of Culture, the old Congress Hall. At the Branderburger Gate the bus takes you to former East Berlin along the main street – the Unter den Linden, along Humbold University, the Opera House, the fine Russian Embassy and ends at Alexander Platz.

T: That’s sound very nice. And do I have to get a special ticket?

J: You can get a single ticket on the bus. It is about $2 dollars or €2 and is valid for two hours on any route.

T: But…er…I’m here until tomorrow evening. Is there a ticket I can use for longer?

J: Ah, yes. You’d better buy a 24 hour-ticket. You can use it both on the underground and the buses.

T: Thank you. You are rather helpful!

Ex. 36. Look at the itinerary. The Mendozas family are visiting Italy as part of a tour. Today is the morning of July 20. Complete the sentences, using the correct verb tense forms and pronouns.

July 22 Another day touring Florence, late afternoon take train to Pisa, spend the night there

July 23 Tour Pisa, return to Rome late afternoon, take 9.00 P.M. evening flight to return home

Ex.38. Prepare a report describing any European landmark.
