Well, a wedding's a lot of work, I can tell you that. For ours we made lists for months before – we put people on our guest list, we crossed them out, we put them on again. We made lists of food, we asked a friend to make our cake, another to ice it. And we decided what delicious food we wanted to eat, and we asked friends to bring a dish of food on the day. Well, it's not very conventional, but we didn't have much money at the time. And an old family friend made my dress to my design – a medieval design – and i wore a garland of flowers and fruits in my hair. And my husband and his best man hired morning suits and top hats.

We spoke to the vicar about having our wedding in his beautiful church. And we arranged the choir, and lovely poems to be read. And an opera singer friend said that she would sing for us, which was wonderful. And we invited about seventy people. Um, I had one bridesmaid to hold my bouquet, and when I arrived at the altar I realised I'd left my flowers behind, and my little bridesmaid had nothing to hold, but it didn't matter. We were too happy to let it matter.

Um, the service was quite thoughtful and beautiful, and lots of people cried, so it must have been really good. Um, then we signed the register after the service, and we were married.

Then we had champagne in the vicar's garden, and had lots of speeches which were lovely. And then we walked round the corner to an old pub next to the church and had lots of lovely food. And after we'd eaten, family and friends made speeches and told embarrassing stories that made both my husband and I blush – they weren't true of course, these stories. And we drank champagne and laughed a lot, and then we cut our cake and then we left for our honeymoon. And that was two weeks in the sun before coming home, an old married couple.
