3. Translate the following sentences from Russian into English, using the words and phrases from Exercise 1:
1. Позвоните мне на работу. 2. Наберите нужный вам номер. 3. Я не слышу гудка. 4. Я снимаю заказ. 5. Говорите громче. Вас плохо слышно. 6. Не кричите в трубку. 7. Линия занята. 8. Нас разъединили. 9. 4. Read the following dialogues. Translate and memorize them. Reproduce in pairs. Define where the situation was formal and informal.
A: - Hullo! Is this number 25-67-14? - Yes, it is. - Hullo! That you, Tom? - This is Tom. - Hullo, Tom! George speaking. Say… - I can’t make out what you are saying. - Are you there? B: - I want to talk on the telephone. I would like to order a call to Moscow. Can you book me a call through to Moscow, please? - Of course. - What is the fee for each conversation& - 10 roubles per minute. - All right. - Insert a coin into the slot. Pick up the receiver. Dial the number wanted. - The number is engaged. I would like to cancel my order. - One moment, I’ll signal the operator.
5. Make up your own dialogues on the basis of the words and phrases from Exercise 1 and 4. Work in pairs.
6. Read and learn the following words and phrases, concerning letters. Use them in your own speech. Try to speak to your partner, taking the lines into consideration. Dramatize the scene.
