Basic features of speed regulation. Range of regulation is significant (up to D=20:1)

Range of regulation is significant (up to D=20:1). The lower limit of speed is determined by the voltage drop in armature circuit. If at lowering of armature supply voltage it becomes commensurable with voltage drop (especially under complete load) than even with insignificant load oscillations occurred and it may lead to the armature stop.

Direction of regulation. Single-zone regulation (if the field weakening isn’t used) down off the primary speed to the minimal one with the reversion from the minimal to the primary speed in the reverse direction.

Smoothness of regulation. Regulation is smooth, respectively to the smoothness of voltage regulation that may be simply enough realized on the controlled converter independently of its type.

Speed stability. Stability is constant, independent of the load value. Stability is high enough, as characteristics are straight and parallel to the natural one, i.e. quite inflexible.

Tolerated load. Speed regulation realized at constant moment since the excitation current (magnetic flux) is a constant value, and a load current cannot exceeds the rated armature current I_яном.

Economy in regulation. Operating costs are rather small at the regulation of supply voltage, therefore from this point of view the method is quite economic, but initial costs on designing of electric drive are significant due to high cost of converter.

As it was mentioned above, electromachine or static converters may be a controlled converter that feeds the DC motor armature circuit.
