Do not confuse the following words!

Verb	Explanation	Example
To look	is often used with prepositions (so-called phrasal verb), e.g. “look after”, “look at”	Pupils, look at the blackboard! You should look after your little sister.
To see	Reaches our eyes	He can not see-he is blind.
To watch	Intentional action	to watch a film, to watch TV
To speak	is often used with names of the languages, is used when one person addresses a group	I speak Spanish. He spoke to the class about the problem.
To tell	always say who we are talking to, is used when giving information. You can tell... the truth/ the time/ a lie/ a story	I told the assistant that I wanted size 8. Tell the man your name.
To say	we can say who we are talking to (with the preposition "to"), but it is not obligatory; - we can put either direct or indirect speech.	As she entered, she said 'Hello' to me. I said that I wanted size 8. I said to the assistant that I wanted size 8.
To talk	suggests that two or more people are having a conversation.	They talked for hours about the problem.
To hear	Comes to our ears	‘Can you speak a bit louder? I can’t hear you.’ Suddenly she heard a strange noise.
To listen (to)	Intentional action (listen to the radio, music)	I am fond of listening to Spanish guitar.
