Posts, grades, insignia and uniform in the US Army

The US Army Personnel consists of three main categories: Enlisted Men, Warrant Officers and Commissioned Officers.

The Enlisted Men include soldiers, Specialists and Noncommissioned Officers.

The Soldiers are: Private 1^st Class, Private and Recruit.

The Specialists are: SP8, SP9, SP7, SP6, SP5, SP4.

The grades of Noncommissioned Officers are as follows: Sergeant Major, Master Sergeant, First Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Sergeant 1^st Class, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant and Corporal. NCOs hold positions as squad leader.

The Warrant Officers include four grades: Warrant Officer, Grade I; Chief Warrant Officer, Grade II; Chief Warrant Officer, Grade III; Chief Warrant Officer, Grade IV; (from junior to senior). They hold positions as technical or administrative supervises.

The Commissioned Officers consist of three groups: Company Officers, Field Officers, and General Officers.

The Company Officers are: Captain, Second Lieutenant, and First Lieutenant. The second or first lieutenant are platoon leaders.

The Field Officers include the following grades: Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, Major. The Commander of a company is a captain or sometimes a major. The bn commander is a lieutenant colonel or a colonel. The division is commanded by a major-general.

The General Officers grades are: General of the Army, General, Lieutenant General, Major General and Brigadier General.

The Servicemen of the US Army have various insignia such as grade insignia, arm or service insignia and other. They wear them on shoulder loops, headgear, sleeves, collars and lapels of their uniform.
