Ventilation Systems

[if a regular air supply is needed, mechanical moving air is the on­ly adequate method.]0 The most popular one is a split or fan system for air ventilation at about room temperature. The split system is mod­ified to buildings with ventilation for certain periods of the time (of­fices, school buildings, etc). The precise temperature is maintained by the radiators; the fan system is operated if ventilation is crucial.

[Ventilation is to remove air at a supplied rate, a system of vent flues being provided for the purpose.]0 The flues from the separate rooms joining together in a trunk duct go ahead to a common dis­charge at the roof. The attic can be used as a discharge chamber, the flues leading directly to it. An exhaust fan is installed to facilitate the
foul flues removal at a velocity from 1,200 to 1,500ft per minute. In three- or four-storey buildings where the friction in exhaust flues is significant, an exhaust fan is known advantageous.

[The hot-blast system is attractive in industrial buildings as a means of supplying fresh air to replace fumes or moisture from man­ufacturing processes.]0 This system is predominantly popular if there is no space for radiators. Since such buildings are not often divided into many rooms, the air is supplied at a constant temperature through a trunk ducts system, the heating coils being placed on the suction side of the fan discharged directly into main duct.

Discharge openings are made in columns on each floor. The trunk and branch ducts are to be well insulated for the heat losses from im­perfectly insulated ducts are significant.
