Suffering from thirst, large cities have two main concerns in water. One is that there is an adequate water supply to meet demand for both household and industrial use. The other is the water quality.

In fact, only 2 percent of supplied public water is estimated to be potable and widely applicable for drinking and cooking. The largest part of household water is for bathrooms: 135 litres for a bath, eight litres a minute for a shower and up to 27 litres each time the toilet is flushed.

As for typical urban household, it consumes approximately 1,000 litres of water a day. Less than 3 percent of all available water all over the world is estimated fresh water. Most of it is out of human reach, for it is trapped as polar ice or deep ground waters. (620 п.зн.)
