5.1. Listen, look and repeat (Слушайте, смотрите и повторяйте):

Английская конструкция “ There is a TV set in my bedroom” на русский язык передаётся как «В моей комнате есть телевизор». Попробуйте перевести следующие предложения:

1. There is a computer in my bedroom. 2. There is a radio in the kitchen. 3. There is a carpet on the floor in my bedroom.

Для множественного числа употребляется конструкция “ There are two TV sets in our flat” – «В нашей квартире есть два телевизора». Переведите на русский язык:

1. There are two computers in our house. 2. There are two radios on the desk. 3. There are some carpets on the floor and on the walls in the living room.

При постановке вопросов “is” и “are” выносятся в начало предложения:

There is a computer in my bedroom. – Is there a computer in your bedroom?

There are two radios on the desk. – Are there two radios on the desk?

Поставьте вопросы к следующим предложениям:

1. There is a vase on the table. – Is there a vase on the table?

2. There is a sofa in my room. –

3. There is a gas cooker in the corner of the kitchen. -

4. There are some flowers in the vase on the table. – Are there any flowers in the vase on the table?

5. There are two windows opposite the door in the kitchen. -

6. There are some cushions on the sofa. –

При постановке специального вопроса вопросительное слово выходит на первое место и ставится перед вспомогательными глаголами “is”, “are”. Например:

There is a nice garden round our house. – Is there a garden round your house? – What is there round your house?

Отрицательные предложения можно построить двумя способами:

5. Do you go shopping?

6. Do you go in for sport?

7. Do you like to spend you day off with your friends or with your parents?

8. What is your hobby?

9. What books do you like to read?

Исчисляемое существительное в единственном числе, употребляемое в речи впервые, употребляется с неопределённым артиклем “a”. Вторично употребляя это же существительное в речи, мы употребляем его с определённым артиклем “the”. Например: This is a cat. The cat is black. Неисчисляемые существительные никогда не употребляются с

неопределённым артиклем. Употребляя неисчисляемое существительное впервые в речи, мы опускаем неопределённый артикль “a”. Продолжая разговор о том же существительном, мы употребляем с ним определённый артикль “the”. Например: This is __ water. The water is fresh. (свежая). Неопределённый артикль “a” никогда не употребляется с существительными во множественном числе. Например: These are __ goods. Продолжая разговор о тех же товарах, мы употребляем это существительное во множественном числе с определённым артиклем “the”: The goods are fine.

Запомните:

  This isabook. Thebook is interesting. This is _ meat. Themeat is fresh. These are _ books.Thebooks are new.  

I meet my friends and we discuss our plans together. Last Sunday we went to the theme park. There were many funny rides and slides there. It was very interesting to spend time there.

On Sundays I usually do shopping. My mother says to me what to buy. As a rule I go to the shop near my house. There are many departments in this shop. I can buy different goods there. Then I go to the baker’s and buy bread and rolls. I also buy milk in the dairy department.

In the evening our family gets together. We have supper, watch TV or read books. Reading is my hobby. I like to read detective stories. At about eleven o’clock I go to bed. I sleep well all night.

The words to be remembered:

Подводя итог, запомните:

There is a nice lamp on the wall over the sofa. – Is there a nice lamp on the wall over the sofa? – No, there is no lamp (there is not a) lamp on the wall over the sofa. - What is there on the wall over the sofa? – There is a nice lamp on the wall over the sofa.

There are a lot of books on the shelves all round the walls in the study. – Are there many books on the shelves all round the walls? – There are no (not) many books on the shelves. – What are there on the shelves? – There are a lot of books on the shelves round the walls.

5.2. Fill in (Заполните пропуски).
