II. Change the following sentences according to the model.

Model 1: - Do you know the woman who is coming toward us?

1. The man who is talking to John is from Korea.

2. The people who are waiting for the bus in the rain are getting wet.

3. The fence which surrounds our house is made of wood.

4. Did you get the message which concerns the special meeting?

Model 2: Jim was playing tennis. He hurt his arm.

Model 3: We finished our work. We went home.

Having finished our work we went home.

1. We bought out tickets. Then we went to the theatre.

2. She did all her shopping. Then she went for a cup of coffee.

3. I did all the housework, then I went out for a walk.

4. They had dinner. Then they continued their journey.

5. She locked all the doors, then she went to bed.

6. He typed all the letters. Then he put them all in envelopes.

7. The burglars broke the lock. Then they penetrated into the house.

 

III. Paraphrase the sentences according to the model.

Model 1: Because she didn’t want to miss the train, she ran all the way to the

station. – Not wanting to miss the train, she ran all the way to the

station.

Model 2: Because I had just eaten, I wasn’t hungry. Having just eaten, I

wasn’t hungry.

1. Because I don’t like classical music I didn’t go to the concert.

2. Because she is rich, she can afford expensive holidays.

3. Because I had finished the book, I decided to take it back to the library.

4. Because they had gone to bed late the night before, they felt quite tired the next day.

5. Because he had failed the exams the first time, he decided to take it again.

6. Because I didn’t know his address, I couldn’t contact him.

Everybody looked at the dancing girl.

The man playing the violin is my friend.

Entering the room she turned on the light.
