Armor is combined arms force. Armor is the main striking force of the Army. The main mission of Armor is to assist infantry to carry out its tasks. Armor can operate independently and in cooperation with other arms. Armor is highly mobile, has great firepower and produces shock effect.

Armor includes tank units, armored cavalry units and mech inf units.

The main mission of tank units is to close with the enemy and destroy him by fire, maneuver and shock effect, in coordination with other arms.

Armor is capable of accomplishing the following actions: deep penetration, and wide envelopment, exploitation, mobile defense, destruction of enemy armor formations, reconnaissance and security, close support of infantry.

At present the US Armor is equipped with light, medium, heavy and special tanks. Special tanks are amphibious, flame throwing, mine-clearing, mine- laying and others.

The main battle tanks of the US Army are M60A1, M60A3 and M1 medium tanks.

The main organization of the Armor is the armored division. It consists of a division base and 10 combat maneuver battalions (four mech inf bns and six tk bns).

Each of the six medium tank battalions is organized with Co Hq, Hq Co and four med tk cos.

The main mission of the tk bn in attack is to penetrate enemy defense and provide close support of infantry. In defense its main mission is to assist inf units to repulse enemy attacks.

Armor units are used to conduct mobile defense.
